Animation Timeline
The Animation Timeline is a set of cards that help you visualise and control when your animations occur. There are a few different things you can do on the Timeline to help you create your masterpiece.
Selecting an Animation on the Timeline
You can click on any animation card to select it. The following things will happen after you select it:
- The animation card will change colour to indicate it has been selected.
- The Animation tab will open automatically, allowing you to edit your animation.
- The item this animation controls will be highlighted on the whiteboard (you should see it will get some additional shadowing to indicate this is the item you are animating).
- The Video Previewer will automatically move playback to where this animation occurs. So if you select an animation card and then press play on the Video Previewer, you will immediately see this animation play.
Deleting Animations on the Timeline
This is as simple as clicking on the animation and then pressing the Delete key (Windows) or Backspace (Mac).
Reordering Animations
If you want to change the order your animations occur in, then the timeline can help you do that. Simply drag and drop your animation to the position you want to move it to.
Grouping Animations
You may see 'Groups' of animations (which appear as a stack of cards) on the Timeline. This indicates that the animations in that stack all start together. Click on a group to expand it and see the individual animations inside. This also enables a few different drag/drop operations:
- Add an animation to a group - An animation can be added to a group by expanding that group, and then dragging an animation from outside of the group into the group. You will see a message appear that says 'Add to Group' along with a blue drop zone.
- Remove an animation from a group - An animation within a group can be removed from it (meaning it won't start at the same time as those within the group any more). Simply drag the animation outside of the group. You will see a message appear that say 'Remove from Group' along with a blue drop zone.
- Reorder animations within a group - You can still reorder animations within a group, by simply dragging and dropping to get your desired order.
Expanding/Collapsing Cameras
When you have a long video, the timeline can get very long and complicated. To help you work efficiently, all animations that happen within a given camera frame can be collapsed. To do this, select the 'Minimise' icon on the top right of any camera animation card. You will see the group collapses to a stack of cards. When you want to work on animations within that camera frame again, simply expand it by clicking on the camera animation card.
